Fences Background

Fences was a play that took play in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the 1950's. By that time baseball was a very popular sport with great athletes such as Jackie Robinson. American sport was continuing to desegregate when the Boston Celtics of the NBA draft the first the league's first African American player. The American congress was starting to to end its white only policy for American sports. This was starting to be a chance for other people to be able to participate in sports without any race issues

Politics- It was the end of WWII. Truman signs the peace treaty with Japan in 1951. In 1952 the immigration and Naturalization act ended any discrimination against becoming a US citizen. The Rosa Parks  bus incident took place around 1955. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in a bus. That's something brave to do. Brown vs. the Board of Education ended segregated schools.

Technology-  In 1952 car seat belts were introduced. I really never knew that, I honestly thought seat belts was created when the first car came out in the United States. In 1953 DNA was discovered be Dr. James Watson. In 1958 explorer one became the first satellite to orbit the earth. Technology was starting to advance in the 1950s.

Entertainment- Television was very popular in the 1950s. Especially when it comes to sports. Sports was very frequently announced in television. In 1957 Dr. Seuss published the Cat In the Hat. A great book for kids and even today.

Race and racism

Pretty sure, most young people does not know what they should know about their race or cultural background. Race and racism is something that everyone should know, especially about them selves. All they know is that they are African American, Hispanic and etc. and know nothing else about their culture. Some say that people face race and racism the same no matter their gender. There really is no difference in how genders experience race and racism.
Almost everybody knows about their race. Either if they are black, Hispanic, and etc. One thing tho is that they don't know much. There are also some young people who does not accept their race due to the opinion of others. They say that they are too dark, too light and etc. Young people do not experience race differently by their gender. For example, in a video that I have seen, a black females mother told her that the way her hair was was too African. Pretty sure someone would say the same thing to a black man. There really is no difference.
Just like how there can be a race between a white guy and a white women. They can have the same speed no matter what the gender is. You can be a guy and be an artist and there can be a women who can do the same thing. Back in history, when there were slaves, women and men almost did the same thing. They were all treated the same.  If you escaped, being a women or a man, you will be punished.
What young people know about races is that they were treated differently depending on their color. That they were treated differently because of their race. But one thing is that there was no difference in gender on how they were treated. If you are human then you would be treated the same as every other human. Just like in class, if one person gets in trouble, everybody has to deal with it as well.

JFk Inaugural Address Open ended response

President Kennedy did believe that  nations can make a difference in the world. In the passage John F. Kennedy states, " Finally to those nations who would make them selves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request; that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction." and also states, " Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us." This demonstrates that John F. Kennedy did believe that nations can really make a difference. A difference that no one really tried on doing because if we actually did, we wouldn't have been on that situation. Just like in the story I read when I was in 7th grade called peace to the world. No one really tried to sought peace between the nations because all they thought about was war and violence, but in the end they figured out how they can work out things together, like a team, that does not involve violence or any of that stuff.

The "Marlin" in my life

I can remember those days as if was yesterday. I would always try hard to beat my best friend in soccer but would never accomplish it. It was on a Friday, right after school when we decided to play soccer in Cedarbrook park. We grabbed about four branches and planted it in the ground and used it as our goals. My best friend Kevin was 10 years old and I was 11, a year older. As we started to play I tried my very best to beat him, but nothing. Another victory for him as always. It was his 20th victory so far and me, none. I hated the fact that he was better than me and I wanted to change that. "What happened John? When are you going to try?" Kevin said as he laughed. He knew that would bother me but also knew that saying that would make me try to improve.
After that day i was determined that one day i will surpass his skills and become so much better than him that he would be speechless. I decided to keep practicing my ball control because that was what i really had problems with. After 2 weeks i faced Kevin again. I started running with the ball and then out of no where he just came sprinting towards me and slide tackled the ball. " What the heck?! Did you just get better?" I yelled surprisingly. He just smiled and made fun of me again. " At that rate you will never become better than me." he exclaimed. I felt very frustrated and did not know what I was doing wrong. I needed to improve.
After 4 weeks I asked him if we could face each other again, but he couldn't because he had joined a soccer club and has practices everyday. I was a bit upset about it and felt a bit lonely playing soccer. Yet I also knew that I must train as well and decided to practice everyday in my backyard. 4 years later, I felt a whole lot better. I have been running laps, trying my best to gain muscle and eat healthy. I feel that I have made magnificent progress. By testing my skills I asked my sisters husband if I can face him on soccer. He was a great soccer player till he messed up his leg when he was younger but he was still skillful. It was a hot sunny day and I was starting to sweat even though we still did not start to play. We played for about 2 hours and I ended up winning. The score was 20-18.
I was excited. Knowing that i won meant that i have really improved. I feel a whole lot faster and stronger compared to when I was 11. Then I decided that it was time to face my best friend again. He was still in a soccer club and that means that he has practices every day. I still asked him if hew wanted to play against me and he said sure. I was excited. All I could think of is the impression on his face after beating him. I went to where he would always practice with his team and there he was, with his coach. " I hope you don't mind if i let my coach be here." He said in a calmly way. "Sure." I replied.
We then went right against each other. I was surprised from his skills and he was fast.REALLY FAST. I felt like I wouldn't keep up to him, but I wouldn't give up. We played for about 1 hr and I was tired as heck. He really made me run. I ended up losing 30- 26. " Not bad John. I brought my coach here so that you can join our team. You will certainly get better there" he said. I accepted the offer but I still lost to Kevin. Even though I lost, one thing that I have won was determination. I decided to keep on training till I would beat my best friend.

St. Valentine

The origin of St. Valentine is unknown , yet they say that there was about three St. Valentines. One was a priest in Rome, another was a bishop in Terni and the last one was in Africa. All that is known is that all of their ends was in February 14, Valentines day. St. Valentine was a martyrdom who would secretly help young couples with their marriage. By that time Claudius II banned marriages in Rome because he thought that men would not join the army because of their wives. St. Valentine did not agree with Claudius II and it angered him. Claudius II then demanded for St. Valentine to be executed on February 14.

In my opinion, people break up in spring break and during summer holidays because by that time pretty sure everyone would want to spend their break peacefully. People break up in April fool's day because people probably take their jokes too far. People probably break up 2 weeks before Christmas because of family problems. An example would be that the husband would not be able to make it home on Christmas day and the wife gets mad. A way of not breaking up is by talking about the solutions that is available instead of going crazy and slapping each other. It's better to think about the positive things.

Personification!

Personification is describing an object with human traits. An example of this is below.

Monday is an old witch who would cast a spell on you and make you suffer. Nearly almost everyone does not like Monday. Probably because its right after our weekend ends. Right when we have to go back to school or work.

Tuesday is a young boy that just came from the hospital trying to recover. Right after Monday you try to keep up on the following day, Tuesday. Its basically like Monday just that you suffer a bit less. ( Even though school always be boring)

Wednesday is like a normal guy going to work. Wednesday is like a day that I feel should not be there. Probably because its monotony. We do the same thing over and over again. Get out of bed, brush your teeth and go to school.

Thursday is like a little kid waiting to open his presents on Christmas eve. Thursday is right before Friday(one of the best days) and pretty sure we all been waiting desperately for this day to come by quick.

Friday is like everyone celebrating new years eve. Basically when this day comes its like a party. Since its the last day of school in the week we are all excited for this day to end.

Saturday is a boring  potato. To me Saturday is like a boring day right when we should be happy that we do not have school. There is nothing to do in the house. Except cleaning which I'm sure no one would want to do.

Sunday is like speedy Gonzales since its a day where I do a lot of things. I do my h.w, go to the laundromat, help my father with some things and play soccer. Since I do a lot the day goes by fast.
